One month ago (May 3rd) I read a verse that encourages me still. I remember the date thanks to a practice a dear friend set in motion for me 10 years ago.
I had been at a loss with what to study in my quiet time…it was a busy season with the kids. I didn’t have time to start something deep. My friend suggested reading a chapter from Proverbs that corresponded with the day’s date.
Bingo! It was just what I needed.
The practice gave me parenting pearls left and right and on the days I was just too exhausted to dig any deeper my needs were met in Proverbs!
Flash forward 10 years. I have more time to delve into His word. In addition, I can read other books. I’m grateful for that. And yet I’m still drawn to Proverbs.
Is it any wonder? Chapter 1 says this:
A Manual for Living
“These are the wise sayings of Solomon,
David’s son, Israel’s king—
Written down so we’ll know how to live well and right,
to understand what life means and where it’s going;
A manual for living,
for learning what’s right and just and fair;
To teach the inexperienced the ropes
and give our young people a grasp on reality.
There’s something here also for seasoned men and women,
still a thing or two for the experienced to learn—
Fresh wisdom to probe and penetrate…” Prov 1:1-6 MSG
Are you in a season with family or your job that you can’t imagine an extended quiet time?
Are you questioning what you could even start reading?
Try a chapter of Proverbs a day!
You won’t be disappointed!
