Hidden Treasure

Hidden Treasure

Ever gone on a treasure hunt? Round these parts it seems the greatest “treasure” we ever find are the “gifts” our beloved Murphy leaves when nobody remembers to turn him outside. (Not that we would ever do that. And not that we would ever call dog poop a treasure.)

Murphy

Mr. Murphy

Regardless, we  had a treasure hunt of another sort the other day. The manly men in our tribe did dishes. They knocked it out of the park.  Not a crumb left on the counter. But along with missing crumbs was a missing piece to the bread maker.

At the bottom of the pan is a small detachable “paddle”. Without it, the machine is worthless. I became concerned when the dishwasher was unpacked and the paddle never surfaced. I told myself, “It’ll will show up.” Alas, no such luck.

I began to think of the woman looking for the lost coin. Poor soul! Oh, agony of agonies! Is this how she felt? Did she experience the deluge of despair that I was fighting? After all…this was my BREADMAKER! This bad boy has been with me since the dawn of time. (OK. So it was a wedding gift. But based on our anniversary date that was the dawn of time.)

How can I even be a DoAhead Woman without my breadmaker?!

And then it hit me.

I ran to the bread basket and pulled out the remaining loaf. I broke it open and sure enough…there it was. The paddle had baked it’s way right into the loaf. When the bread was pulled out, the paddle went with it!

Breadmaker

I couldn’t help but think of the verse in Isaiah:

And I will give you treasures hidden in the darkness–secret riches. I will do this so you may know that I am the LORD, the God of Israel, the one who calls you by name.” Isaiah 45:3 NLT

Are you looking for hidden treasure?

Are you in a season of life in which the veil of darkness is so thick you’re certain the sun in your hand couldn’t penetrate it?

Been there sweet DoAheads. Believe me when I say He’s right there in it. He illuminates the dark. He calls us tenderly. And He reveals gifts that were there all along…just hidden.
