There’s a back story to today’s recipe. We had another family Christmas this past Sunday. There were several items I wanted to bring. One such item was my sister-in-law’s version of Green Bean Casserole. There was just one problem. I couldn’t find the recipe. A.N.Y.W.H.E.R.E.
The really pathetic part is that this was third time I’d lost it. {Good gravy.}
Consequently, today’s DoAhead Dining post is published with dual motives.
#1 My desire to bless DoAhead friends with a tasty twist on an old recipe.
#2 My wish to ensure I will never lose this recipe again.
Without further adieu’…here’s a recipe for me and you!
Aunt Julie’s Green Bean Casserole
Ingredients:
3 cans green beans (You can use cut or French Style.)
1 can Cream of Chicken Soup
1 1/3 cups French Fried Onion Rings
1 Cup Shredded Cheddar Cheese
1/2 tsp Greek Seasoning (Click here for a link to Greek Seasoning and another great recipe that uses this fabulous flavor enhancer.)
1/2 tsp Chicken Bouillon Granules
1/4 tsp Pepper
Mix the soup, shredded cheese, seasoning and 1 cup of the onion rings. Stir in beans. Place in a lightly greased casserole dish. Bake at 350 for 25 minutes. Sprinkle remaining onions on top and bake an additional 5 minutes.
A simple DoAhead for this recipe would be to prep the dish, cover and refrigerate the day before. (But be sure to keep the 1/4 cup of onions on the side so they remain crisp for the last 5 minutes of cooking.)
The last time I lost this recipe my beloved Mom emailed it to me. I’ll sign off the same way she signed off to me…
Love you!
Your determined never to lose this recipe again DoAhead Friend,
Cin, the green bean casserole recipe is always on the back of the French’s Fried Onions. Just FYI. This new recipe sounds great! Beej
Perfect! I can’t believe I never looked. Good grief! Thanks for the tip. 🙂
