Apple Crisp
This traditional blend of apples, oatmeal and a bit of cinnamon and sugar stands the test of time! We use organic ingredients so despite the sugar content we consider it a relatively “healthy” dessert!

Instructions
  1. Mix flour, brown sugar and oatmeal in a bowl. Melt butter and combine. Stir thoroughly.
  2. Peel and slice apples. In a small bowl mix water, sugar and cinnamon. Fold mixture into apples.
  3. Place apples in a lightly greased 9 X 11 inch pan. “Crumble” the topping evenly over the apples. Bake at 350 for 35-40 minutes or until apples are tender with a fork.
Recipe Notes

This treat is delicious with a dollop of ice cream or whipped topping but it doesn’t need it to be “drool-worthy”! This dessert is also a wonderful DoAhead.

You can prepare the desert in its entirety, cover with foil and freeze. When you need a treat in a hurry simply remove from the freezer and bake according to instructions. (You may have to cook a little longer if you go straight from the freezer to the oven. Test apples with a fork to ensure they are tender.)

A word of caution: when I freeze this dessert it is usually in an aluminum foil pan. Unless you are confident of your cookware I would guard against putting it straight from the freezer to the oven.

I have also prepared just the apple mixture and frozen it in Ziploc freezer baggies. All that’s left is to prepare the topping! Either option is a great DoAhead!
