Who Am I-Part III

Two weeks ago DoAhead Devo delved deeper (Wow. That is alot of D’s).

We grabbed our second cup of coffee and asked a thought provoking question.

Who Am I?

In the past two weeks we’ve kicked three lies in the boo-tay!  Quick recap…

Lie #1

We cannot define Who We Are based on our opinion of ourselves.

Lie #2

We cannot define Who We Are based on the opinions others have of us.

Lie #3

We cannot define Who We Are based on the occurrences or circumstances that surround our life.

And now the moment of truth…what we’ve been waiting for.

There is only one way to frame the answer to the question “Who Am I?”  and it’s by asking God what HE thinks of us.

Who we are has nothing to do with:

  • how we see ourselves
  • how others see us
  • or our life’s circumstances.

But let’s not settle for mere DoAhead dialogue.

Paul says in Romans Chapter 12, “The only accurate way to understand ourselves is by what God is and what He does for us, not by what we are and what we do for Him.”

And now the incredible news. Guess how He sees us?!

“I’ll call them nobodies and make the somebody’s; I’ll call the unloved and make them beloved.”  Romans 9:25

“Listen, O daughter, consider and give ear: Forget your people and your father’s house. The king is enthralled by your beauty; honor him, for he is your lord.” Psalm 45:10-11

How humbling!  The God of the  Universe calls us beloved.  He is enthralled by our beauty, “the King is wild for us.”

We’ll wrap this 3 week DoAhead Devo up with a clip from King Kong. (Yup…King Kong.)

Let’s grab our tissues  as we put ourselves in the heroine’s shoes. Keep in mind, up to this point she feared “the King.” In fact…she ran from him.

Once she risks following him she thinks she needs to DO something for him.

As He purveys his beautiful kingdom her epiphany takes place. She realizes how the King sees her.  When that happens…it changes everything.

Hope this blesses all the DoAheads out there!  May we remember who we are…the beloved of God!
