There’s been a stirring in my soul lately. For lack of a better description I’ll call it patriotism. Don’t get me wrong. I’ve always considered myself “a lover of my country”. But in the past few weeks the rumblings have gone deeper.
Today is flag day. Could that be it?
I doubt it.
Presidents day was a week ago. Maybe that explains it.
No, I don’t think so.
The Olympics!
On second thought, Putin’s actions in Ukraine leave me with no choice but to boycott the Olympics.
Martin Luther King?
We’re getting warmer.
Freedom?
Now we’re just plain hot.
This past weekend I had the privilege of sharing with a group of amazing women in Marshal, MN. We talked about dreams, our callings and most of all our legacy. We learned that the dreams and callings God placed in us are for a purpose and God’s purpose for us has less to do with us than it has to do with others.
But freedom is required to pursue dreams. And it’s not the freedom from the tyranny of another that will stymy our dreams the most. It’s freedom from the tyranny of ourselves that must take place.
Surrender is the key.
Speaker and author Mica Campbell said it best, “The only thing we’ll miss by not surrendering our lives…is all God has for us.”
I have big dreams. Some of those dreams are for myself, some are for my children, and some are for my children’s children. And yes…some are for my country. But I recognize that this beautiful nation I call my homeland isn’t really my home. Home is yet to come. God has promised a New Jerusalem to those who believe in his son Jesus Christ.
Until that time comes I’ll continue to surrender. I’ll continue to dream. And I’ll commit to leaving a legacy worthy of a coming King!
Since it’s Inspire Me Monday here’s little inspiration in the form of one of my all time favorite songs from the 80’s. If you’re not pumped to dream a little bigger after this call me…I’ll rub your feet, give you a pep talk, or get you a coffee. Whatever it takes Sister! Whatever it takes.
