I took full advantage of February’s reputation for chocolate but sadly we can’t live on cocoa beans alone. So today I decided to share a family favorite. This bad boy is an awesome alternative to pizza. Without delay here’s the recipe for an easy version of Stromboli!
Stromboli
Ingredients:
1 Loaf Bread Dough
Salami- sliced thin from the Deli
Ham-sliced thin from the Deli
Pepperoni-sliced thin from the Deli
Provolone Cheese
Mozzarella Cheese
Romano Cheese
Garlic Powder-sprinkled over meat
Oregano-sprinkled over meat
Parsley- sprinkled over meat
Pepper- sprinkled over meat
Egg Yolk-brushed over loaf once rolled
Allow frozen loaf of bread dough to thaw and then rise. Punch it down and shape it into a rectangle. Arrange and layer the salami, ham, pepperoni and cheese. (Although I prefer pepperoni that is larger in size and thinly sliced, pre-packaged pepperoni will work just fine.) Sprinkle with Romano and seasonings. (Careful with the Oregano…just a dab will do!)
Roll up the dough and pinch the seams.
Brush the finished product with egg yolk. It will help it to cook a beautiful golden color. Bake at 375 for approximately 30 minutes. (Word of caution. You may need to flip the Stromboli 20 minutes after its been in the oven. Rotating it keeps the bottom from getting too brown while still allowing enough time for the dough and meat to cook thoroughly.)
Holy moly! You’ve got Stomboli!
If it’s just our fam for dinner we usually have leftovers. It warms up great, which of course is a terrific DoAhead!
Enjoy!
