I’ve been keeping a secret. But it’s time to tell.
No. I’m not a chicken (at least not the two-legged, feathery kind) but I am hatching something. My family will testify that I perfected the potty dance in my excitement over the news. But then something strange happened.
I sat on it.
I’m not sure why.
I could rattle off several reasons. All of them (in my mind) quite good.
It might sound boastful.
I think I’ll keep quiet.
Good gravy…I could fail.
Let’s just surprise the planet when I’ve accomplished said goal.
A tough choice had to be made.
What if I hurt someones feelings?
My introvert, extrovert personality left me overthinking the sharing of wonderful news. It’s time for full disclosure lest you think my fifty-ish body is about to bear a child.
I have a literary agent!
Be a friend and let me say it again.
I have an agent.
I like the way that sounds. How about this?
My agent called.
OR
My agent is snowed in today.
OR
You should read my agents blog today…so good.
My agent, my agent, my agent. Pinch me please.
Ignore my tongue-in-cheek humor. This truly is a gift! Do you know what this means friends?
I’m not alone.
Two-plus years ago I was hammering out a writing project when a tempest of loneliness swept over me. The winter chill had nothin’ on the cold that had moved from bones to heart.
The blizzard outside was the perfect metaphor for what I was fighting. Self-doubt flew in my face and stung with the same veracity as the sleet that hammered my window.
The burden I felt to see the world filled with women living out their lives as God sees them…as women of vision, was nearly erased. A white-out of uncertainty and insecurity came precariously close to occluding my own sight.
But God.
He propped me up and with tender words reminded me that obedience in the small is where all great things start.
Fast forward two years and I’m at a conference, nervously looking into the sharp eyes (and mind) of a literary agent. She knows better than I what women are looking for. Guess what? She thinks the message of vision is a relevant and needed one too!
“Ya’ll” know I love DoAheads. But you don’t have to poke around these pages long to realize there’s more to it than a crock-pot and getting more done.
Let’s be honest. Who the heck needs more to do? I don’t want more to do. But you can bet your socks I’ll DoAhead if it means I can dig down, get dirty and——–
Do more of what matters.
God made one of you. The callings He has placed in your heart are precious. Fulfillment comes when we identify and honor those callings.
But it gets better. God is good at every thing (including time management) so He turns this business of a calling into a terrific two-fer-one. When we honor our callings we also have the opportunity to bless others!
The corner stone of DoAhead Woman is this:
“Where there is no vision, the people perish.” Proverbs 29:18 KJV
God’s gifts of foresight, hindsight and insight are ours for the taking.
We are DoAhead women. It’s just that our behinds have gotten in the way.
Rachelle Gardner with Books and Such literary agency has caught sight of this. I’m incredibly grateful for her vision, her accountability and now and then her help keeping the egg warm (sometimes you need a potty break.).
I’ll be issuing a newsletter later this spring. It will run seasonally. If you’d like to be in the loop regarding the book (or when I and my tribe are loopy) sign up. I’ll guard your email carefully (you know how I feel about too much clutter in the inbox 🙂 ).
Well, I’d better run. The egg is getting cold. Thanks for letting me share. Most of all thanks for being part of the journey.
