Permission to Dream

dreams-1

Do the dust bunnies in your life ever drown out mind-blowing truths like God spoke just about everything into existence?

I catch myself and wonder at my lack of wonder. Bunnies and bills take up too much real estate in my brain. I forget to marvel over a marvelous God.

  • The sight of crisp clouds against a steel blue sky…He spoke!
  • The sound of howling wind…He spoke!
  • The feel of velvet grass beneath feet…He spoke!
  • The smell fresh bread…He spoke!

And to think that we have a place under the wings of such a powerful and creative God.

But the marvel doesn’t stop there, especially when we recall that which He did not speak into being but chose instead to make by hand.

You and I weren’t spoken into being.

We. Were. Formed.

“God formed Man out of dirt from the ground and blew into his nostrils the breath of life. The Man came alive—a living soul!” Genesis 2:7

Can you see it?

His fingers “played” in the dirt.

The potter molded, shaped, and carved our bodies.

What attention to detail! What interconnectedness in the process!

If that weren’t intimate enough, the One that spoke all other life into existence knelt over, pressed His lips over Adams nostrils and breathed His very own breath into him. Can you see the smile play on God’s lips as He created Adam? The wonder! The possibilities!

He still does the same for you and I. Psalm 139:13  says this:

“He create us and knit us into being.”

Knit one, pearl two as He made YOU!

Woven in and amongst the marrow and muscle, eyes and ears, toes and fingers are personalities, dispositions and dreams.

Dreams.

God wove dreams into each and every one of us!

Our gifts, bents, talents, dispositions all of those things fit into His great plan for our lives.

Oh how we delight His heart when we honor the dreams and callings He placed in us!

“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Ephesian 2:10

Sometimes it’s easier to dream when we recognize our Creator not only gives us permission to dream but made us for it.

There is one minor caveat. If recollecting our dreams creates dissatisfaction in our soul it may be an alarm we should heed.

It’s possible that an inclination, bent or talent, has become something redirected toward self-gain or selfish ambition.

Our dreams were never meant to be self-serving. That is counter to our Creator. The holy manifestation of our dreams will always bring glory to the One who gave them to us. They will enable us to love Him and others better than we could without dreaming!

The “trick” of course with dreams is the same trick we need apply in every area of life.

Surrender.

Today I pray you will dream with me. Dream big! Dream bold! And as we do may we give them over to Him. He’s the One that can be trusted to steer them in a direction that will benefit us AND those around us!

“…being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” Ephesians 2:10 NIV

“The Eternal One will finish what He started in me. Your faithful love, O Eternal One, lasts forever; do not give up on what Your hands have made.” Psalm 138:8 The Voice
