Valentines College Care Package

Valentines Care Package 1

Well, sweet lovelies, this fun little post was supposed to publish two days ago. However, I’m learning that one of the joys of a home remodel is a funny little thing called “discontinuation of services.”

{I’ve added the internet technician, Dan, to my Thanksgiving roster. He deserves a major helping of Turkey and tators. His frequent visits to our home have resulted in the addition of our phone number to his cell phone…on speed dial. THAT’S how much he’s been here. Yes. The man definitely deserves some pumpkin pie.} [Read more…]

Letting Go of the Bike

If you’ve ever been to a wedding dance or teenage function there’s a good chance you’ve heard Chubby Checker’s Limbo Rock.

“Every limbo boy and girl
All around the limbo world
Gonna do the limbo rock
All around the limbo clock”

Invariably the long pole is presented. If you’re like me you watch from the sidelines and wonder if the contorted participants have their chiropractor on speed dial.

Limbo also makes me think of something else.

How it feels to watch my young, adult children navigate their faith in a crazy, crazy world. [Read more…]

The Blanket

Serendipitous encounter. That’s the phrase that best describes my meeting with Dana Boyd. We were two women, stuck in airport with excess time, coffee and words.

Dana captured my heart with her thoughtful, sincere ways. Bottom line——–something clicked. We live states away but we stayed in touch and I guess, as they say,”the rest is history.” Dana has contributed on DoAhead Woman in the past but it is with gratitude and excitement that I announce her status as regular contributor.

She’s featured on the contributors page but for her official debut I thought I’d make her bio easy to reach. I know you will enjoy getting to know Dana as much as I will enjoy sharing her! Meet. Dana. Boyd!

Dana is a lifelong lover of words with a passion for sharing stories of the heart—both her own and others. Her writings draw from her experiences as a woman, a writer, a wife, a mother of three, and a Bible-believing Jesus follower. She is a defender of truth, an avid proponent of common sense and a recovering (often relapsing) perfectionist still learning to lean in to grace. Her writing is an honest outpouring of her introverted heart, driven by a longing to inspire others to feel deeply, think critically and act compassionately.

“Aero Med is here.”

Fear drenched my entire being as my sister ended the call. I raced the helicopter to the hospital and won, only to wait a quarter-hour eternity for it to deliver my 20-year-old nephew.

Cracked skull, nicked artery, bleeding on both sides of his brain—his injury was critical. He would need emergency neurosurgery.

You’re never prepared for that call…emotionally or physically.

You just drop everything and go. And never do you feel more helpless. Or so desperate to help. [Read more…]

Christmas Countdown!

5 Gift Ideas

I’m still shopping girls. That’s right. Me. Little Missy DoAhead is still trying to finish up the Ho-Ho thing. I know what happened. I got cocky. I had actually started in October this year. I don’t know why. I just did. I think I stumbled upon a perfect gift for a loved one and thought “Hey…why not get this thing rolling?”

Well, somewhere along the line I must have started to assume (falsely) that I was further ahead with my shopping than I actually was. Truth is…
